One Sunday in April

After all the brouhaha of the City Convention, it makes a welcome change to think back to late April, a rainy day at Highland Jr. High - the Ward 3 Convention. Following the example of Senate District 64 the prior year, the precinct caucuses and convention were held on the same day. This is a new thing for Ward 3.

Over three hundred delegates attended the Ward 3 convention (compared to just over five hunded for the City Convention). A wide variety of subcaucuses were formed for city delegate selection (my personal favorite is Uncommitted-Committed). This year was a little unusual, since the city delegates showed a keen interest in City Convention committee assignments. Ordinarily we can't keep people in the hall for that business.

There was a great deal of effort that went into the event (and yes, quite a bit of that was mine), and many people deserve credit for bringing it off, but I would like to particularly thank Jules Goldstein and Megan Thomas for their contributions. And a special thanks to the precinct chairs, who had more responsibility this time around and who handled it admirably. We can't manage it without your help.

Well, there's always next year to look forward to. In our case, that will be the Senate District 64 convention selecting State convention delegates. The early word is that we are going back to the February precinct caucus-April SD convention schedule. With redisticting, this may end up being a good thing, since we may need time to sort out who goes where. I only hope that the attendance at the convention reflects the good turnout at the precinct caucuses that we have come to expect. See you there.
