Representative Bruce Vento Not Seeking Reelection

Fourth Congressional District DFLer’s were suprised and saddened to learn that long-time Representative Bruce Vento will not run for reelection. Citing the need to undertake aggressive therapy to combat lung cancer, Representative Vento indicated that he could not devote the time or energy needed to seek reelection.

On Capitol Hill, he has been a champion for environmental protection, and supported a wide array of programs and policies aimed at improving peoples’ lives. The sudden absence of his strong voice on progressive issues makes selecting a candidate to fill his very large shoes even more difficult.

We must all work hard in these coming months to find and support a candidate that can build on Representative Vento’s accomplishments and protect them (and us) from those who would turn back the clock. The first step is attending your Caucus/Convention on March 11 or 12. (SD64's is March 11, at 1:00 at Central Sr. High) Seek to be a delegate at the 4th CD Convention coming in April. The DFL Party endorsing a strong candidate will start the election process off on the right foot. It may be the best way to say “thank you” to Representative Vento for all his efforts on our behalf.
